Pet Foster Families Needed
ARK launched its pet foster family program in early 2018 initially handling both dogs and cats. Now that the Hart County Animal Shelter conducts a dog foster program as part of its intake process, ARK’s foster program handles the cats. We are glad to support the shelter in its dog foster program and we refer you to the shelter for your dog issues.
However, whether it’s dogs through the shelter or cats through ARK, we always need families who are willing to temporarily take surrendered animals into their homes and provide them with loving care until permanent homes can be found. Surrendered pets come from homes where they can no longer be cared for, due to changing circumstances.

DOGS: If you can no longer keep a dog, or if you know of a dog that needs a new home because the owners can no longer care for it, please contact the Hart County Animal Shelter at 270-524-1692. If they can’t take your dog, see the note below.
CATS: The shelter doesn’t take cats or kittens, so contact ARK for possible referral to our Cat Foster program. Message us on Facebook, email us at ark4hart@gmail.com or leave a phone message at (225) 414 - 2765. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
IN GENERAL: We can also help you find a new home for your pet through our Facebook page and PetFinder. We can post pictures, a brief description (age, gender, personality, breed, etc), and your contact information to the community. This is a tried and true process to get your pet rehomed. Important Information for Pet Foster Homes
All foster cats should be kept inside for their own protection.
Animal Rescue Kare (ARK) runs a Foster Family Program for animals that are not immediately adoptable or that are awaiting transfer to another animal shelter facility. I understand fully that these animals are in my care only temporarily and that they belong exclusively to ARK. I understand that the purpose of this foster relationship is solely to provide care for the animal(s). Any determination made about these animals must be approved by a designated ARK Board Director.
I understand that when the animal(s) is ready to be available for adoption or transport, I will surrender it back to ARK for placement or transport. All fostered animals remain the property of ARK until adopted or transported. All placements are made through ARK and subject to the same guidelines as any other adoption. Foster Families are encouraged to assist in the placement process of their foster animal(s) and make their wishes known. ARK will work closely with its Foster Families, but final placements must remain an ARK judgment.
By signing this contract, I agree to take care of the foster animals, keep in regular contact with an ARK representative, report any problems immediately, and return the animal on time for any vaccine or wellness follow-up treatments/exams.
Foster Families must understand that ARK cannot guarantee placement. Foster animals that are not placed may be euthanized. ARK will make every attempt to re-foster an animal if additional care is needed.
When fostering pets from ARK, it is very important that all household pets are up-to-date on vaccinations for their protection. This includes Rabies, DA2PPV/ FVRCP and Bordetella (Kennel Cough) vaccines. I understand that fostering an animal could still pose a risk to my existing pets.
I have read and understand the Foster Family Program Guidelines and agree to abide by the policies of ARK while I have a foster animal in my care. Failure to comply with ARK policies may result in being dropped from participation in this Program.
As an ARK Foster Family, I understand and agree that I am fully responsible for any animal that is placed by ARK in my care, control, and custody. I understand that I receive foster care animals at my own risk and can decline to accept any animal for which ARK has asked me to provide care. I acknowledge that ARK is not responsible for any property damage or personal injury suffered by me, or members of my household (including my own animals or any third parties) during a foster placement, and I assume liability to provide adequate controls to prevent such damage or injury. I agree to promptly notify ARK once I am aware of any incident or claim made, or that could be made, against me by any person or entity with regard to my participation in the ARK Foster Program, or damage to others resulting from my actions, or lack thereof, associated with my participation as an ARK Foster Family. Furthermore, I fully indemnify and release ARK, its board, members and volunteers of all liability associated with any such incident or claim made, or that could be made.
